About Unlock

Set in the heart of England's Lake District, Unlock is an international experience for students who want more from their summer. Through outdoor adventures, conservation projects, leadership challenges, wellbeing practices, business insights, community service, and team experiences, participants discover what they’re capable of when they step beyond their comfort zones.

This isn't about filling time with activities; it's about learning through experience.

The program is delivered through a partnership between Impact and the University of Cumbria. Impact brings five decades of expertise in experiential learning and leadership development, working with business leaders and organizations across the globe. The University of Cumbria is renowned for its strengths in outdoor education, sustainability and learning through nature. Together, they combine academic insight with real-world learning in the extraordinary setting of the English Lake District.

    Through team challenges, reflection, real-world projects and shared experiences, students develop confidence, communication skills, emotional intelligence, resilience and the ability to make a positive impact.

    Dedicated wellbeing practices help students develop healthy habits, manage pressure, build self-awareness and strengthen their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing through reflection, movement and time spent in nature.

    Working alongside local experts and organizations, students explore conservation, biodiversity, regenerative farming and environmental stewardship, gaining firsthand experience of how local action can create global impact.

    The mountains, lakes and landscapes of the Lake District become a powerful classroom for courage, teamwork and perseverance. Guided by experienced outdoor professionals, participants take part in adventurous experiences that challenge, inspire and develop self-belief.

    Students experience university life, meet business leaders, and tackle real-world challenges through project work, presentations, and career exploration. This helps them understand their future options and develop skills valued by colleges and employers.

    Participants work alongside community organizations, charities and social impact partners on projects that create genuine value for local communities. By contributing to something bigger than themselves, students experience firsthand how leadership can make a meaningful difference.
