Grundfos' global leadership development portfolio

Waterfall from above

About

Grundfos’s purpose is to pioneer solutions to the world’s water and climate challenges and improve quality of life for people. Every day, their energy-efficient pumps provide household comfort, move water, wastewater and industrial liquids and help water farmers’ crops all over the world – and these are just a few of the examples of the company’s impact on the world.

Grundfos aimed to best prepare their leaders to navigate the complex world they operate in, so they could fulfil their organisational purpose. This required an ambitious and future focused shift in their leadership culture. The result is a newly developed global Leadership Development Portfolio, blending timeless, personal, and people development expertise with cutting-edge approaches and delivery.

Grundfos is a business with a strong ethical and purpose-led approach to doing business. They believe that human-centred people development has the greatest effect on business growth and it’s through their people that they’ll achieve measurable results and have a positive impact on the planet and society.

Following a period of strategic transition and acquisition they began their journey to create a centralised global leadership culture and talent pipeline. ‘One Grundfos’ is an approach to leadership which retains the values built over 80 years whilst being adaptable to a competitive and disrupted marketplace. It is designed to develop leaders who can take change and ‘run with it’, empowering their teams to turn the vision into reality, using their core capabilities to create this bold, new organisation.

This vision led to a suite of leadership programmes that express the values and culture of the business and empower leaders at every level.

Grundfos and Impact worked in partnership to create a Leadership Development Portfolio that blends timeless people development expertise with cutting-edge learning methods. The result is a custom suite of programmes that are open to leaders at all levels, with greater scale, global reach and consistency than ever before.

The signature programmes last three to four months and include a unique blend of elements – a virtual campus, small self-led Circles, customised activities for leaders to run with their real teams back at work, several live virtual or in-person sessions - all woven into a coherent end-to-end learning journey led by Impact coaches. Crucially, the programme elements are all designed to embed the learning through real life application.

The interventions nurture self-assured, forward-thinking leaders by giving them space to develop their personal leadership, wherever they are on the journey, from foundational skills to transformative strategies.

The portfolio was designed for four levels of leadership needs:

Foundation helps new leaders discover and cultivate their unique leadership styles. The programme emphasises building a solid foundation of essential skills and confidence, enabling participants to step into leadership.

Elevate is for mid-level leaders facing unique challenges. The programme encourages participants to invest time in themselves and each other, to achieve a happier, healthier, and stronger work / life balance.

Transform helps senior leaders to translate the aspirations of the Grundfos transformation into tangible outcomes and actions for their teams and divisions. It provides the latest insights and knowledge in leadership and storytelling to empower senior leaders to influence business direction, shape their personal legacy and craft a compelling, collective vision for change.

Inspire is designed for indirect leaders. Indirect leadership is a powerful force, recognising leaders who don’t manage people, but lead projects, or are subject matter experts within the organisational matrix. Inspire recognises that indirect leaders wield substantial power and influence, and it enhances their leadership potential.

Impact have also been engaged to create multiple additional learning interventions for Grundfos including:

  • A suite of Leadership Labs – short, sharp topic-based inspiration and skill sessions on topics including leading change and coaching.
  • Customised team-based interventions
  • Stream – a new imagining of Grundfos’ world class global graduate programme.

A development initiative on this scale delivers exponential results linking leadership development to both people and business growth. As leaders across the business begin to talk about and practice ‘One Grundfos’ leadership and demonstrate increased confidence and capability, the vision for transformation becomes a reality.

The genuine partnership between Grundfos and Impact, from initial concept to launch, has generated a portfolio of learning experiences as diverse, unique, innovative and reliable as the water and climate solutions that have made Grundfos into a world-leading business.
