Sustainability leadership is entering a new phase

With the sustainability landscape becoming harder to navigate, the role of the CSO is changing.

Senior impact leaders are being asked not only to advance environmental and social commitments, but also to demonstrate how those commitments strengthen performance, resilience, innovation and long-term value. 

The questions are becoming more complex:

  • Where can sustainability create the greatest value for the organisation?
  • How do you maintain progress when priorities are shifting?
  • How do you secure investment and commitment across the C-suite?
  • Which challenges are shared across organisations, regardless of sector?

In partnership with the UN Global Compact Network UK, this complimentary retreat brings together a small group of senior sustainability executives to explore these questions through facilitated challenge-sharing, fresh perspectives and personal reflection.

You will leave with new thinking, stronger connections and practical ideas to help accelerate value through sustainability.

The experience

The retreat follows a simple journey designed to move you from space and reflection to renewed focus and action.

Reflect

Step away from the pace and expectations of your role. Through time outdoors, personal exploration and honest conversation, take stock of what has changed, what is demanding your attention and where you may need greater clarity.

Reimagine

Encounter different perspectives from peers, facilitators and the landscape around you. Explore emerging ideas, challenge familiar assumptions and consider new possibilities for sustainability, leadership and value creation.

Reframe

Bring those insights back to the challenges you are facing. Work with peers to view them through a different lens, strengthen the business case and identify fresh ways forward for you, your leadership team and your organisation.

The setting is confidential, supportive and deliberately small, allowing participants to move quickly beyond familiar introductions into the issues that matter.

What to expect

Your retreat begins at 1pm on Wednesday 3 February and concludes by 3.30pm on Thursday 4 February 2027, to fit with train connections North and South.

Across the two days, you can expect:

  • An intimate, carefully curated group of senior sustainability peers
  • Expertly facilitated dialogue centred on the challenges brought by participants
  • Structured time for personal reflection and cross-sector peer consulting
  • Fresh perspectives and provocations that challenge established thinking
  • Time outdoors in the Lake District landscape
  • Informal conversation over dinner and throughout the experience
  • Practical reframing of a live sustainability or leadership challenge

Accommodation and meals will be provided at our award-winning 4-star Cragwood Country House Hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere. Impact and UK Global Compact Network UK, will cover the retreat, accommodation and meal costs. Participants are responsible only for their travel to and from the Lake District.

Because this is a small, invitation-only retreat, expressions of interest will be reviewed before places are confirmed.
