About

ABN AMRO serves retail, private and corporate banking clients with a primary focus on the Netherlands and with selective operations internationally. The Career Development Programme equipped employees with the necessary tools to take responsibility for their own careers.

Objective

Through internal staff surveys, ABN AMRO Australia identified a need to enable people within their services division to take a more holistic approach to their career development.

Solution

Working in close partnership, Impact created a programme that enabled staff to examine their career aspirations, including personal reflection, self assessment, short- and long-term career opportunities, optimising current job fit and clarifying personal and professional career goals. The design ensured that staff were equipped with the necessary tools to take responsibility for their own careers.

Programme elements included:

  • Staff took part in focused career development workshops
  • Managers developed their career coaching skills to help provide ongoing support and guidance for their staff
  • The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®) helped participants to explore career and personal preferences in relation to current and future roles
  • Impact gave ongoing feedback to senior management in relation to the key drivers that support long-term career development within ABN AMRO in Australia

Engaging the managers in the process was integral to the programme’s success. They played an important role by providing ongoing career coaching discussions with their staff.

Result

The relationships between managers and their staff across the business have become stronger as a result of ongoing development discussions. Managers have reported a renewed enthusiasm from staff for the development of their current and future roles within ABN AMRO in Australia.
