Hybrid working

The relationship between people and the workplace is always evolving. But over the last couple of years, it has completely transformed.

Making hybrid work for you and your team

Hybrid working has given us an opportunity to redesign our days, even our lives, if we wanted to. It’s about greater flexibility and trust. With the rise in hybrid working globally, clients have been asking about the new rules of engagement.

For example, how do we collaborate effectively when we’re not side by side? What can we do to be more human in a hybrid world? What are the rules around in-person meetings? How do we stay connected when we see each other less?

You can’t watch a video or read a book about ‘hybrid working’ and know how to do it. Not least because each team’s and each person’s experience is unique to them. There’s no magic solution or set of steps.

Instead, it’s about recognising individuality, having some tricky conversations, addressing the elephants in the room, and working on some of the difficult practicalities until you all know what you’re doing.

  • Working from home (characterised variously as freedom, burnout, putting a wash on, inclusive, isolating, zoom fatigue, a skive, balanced, show-us-all-your-dog…)
  • Mixing working from home with time on site (characterised variously as collaborative, confusing, socially pressured, the perfect mix, nice to wear nice clothes, how-did-we-ever-get-any-work-done-in-here?)
  • Being in an organisation in which some people now have different work arrangements and you currently don’t. But one day you might
  • Working in a team in which people’s jobs are changing, the way you work together and communicate is changing, in an organisation that’s changing, in an industry and world that’s changing
  • What are the driving forces at play here
  • How hybrid working is affecting me, my team, my organisation and my industry
  • How to steer towards everything that’s great about hybrid working
  • How to steer through everything that’s difficult and dangerous about it
  • How to be ready for whatever comes next and help the people around us to choose to be ready too
