Impact supports the Second World Open Forum
2 - 4 February 2012
As part of our general engagement in sustainable development and in the Lake District community of which it is a part, Impact is supporting the second World Open Forum, which takes place in the English Lake District on 2 - 4 February 2012.
The first World Open Forum was held in February 2011. It was a series of talks and discussions on the themes of values, ethics and social and material sustainability. It moved from one place to another across the Lake District and its discussions were coloured by the salient cultural, educational and environmental themes of the district. It was, by general agreement, encouraging, enjoyable and an undoubted success. Speakers included Polly Higgins, Howard Hull, Rebecca Willis and Cameron Butland.
The forum was conceived by David Jackman as an alternative to the Davos World Economic Forum - to address the same global issues as Davos, but in the contexts of sustainability, ethics and common humanity and with an ethos of inclusivity and dialogue. The World Open Forum is open to all and is about open dialogue that finds its own direction.
In 2012, as it was in 2011, the Forum will be about sustainability and ethics in education, business, government and civil society. Sessions will take place at venues across the Lake District.
There will be no charge for the forum, but participants will be asked to make a contribution to the cost of the venue and refreshments.
