Becky volunteers at the London 2012 Olympics
Impact's Becky Flight has been picked as a volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics this summer.
Being part of the 2012 Olympics is something that Becky wanted to do since they announced the games would be held in London back in 2005. "In the summer of 2005 I was travelling the world. I can remember sitting around a small computer in a tiny internet café in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand, watching the BBC website poised to hear the announcement of where the 2012 Olympics would be held. London was announced and I whooped and hollered and the Thai lady thought we were mad. It was then I vowed that I would do whatever It took to be part of the London 2012 Experience."
Becky was picked from the 250,000 applicants to form a 70,000 strong team of volunteers. Her role will be within the Print Distribution Team, responsible for the delivery of all event results to the press, authorities etc and will be based in the Excel Arena with events such as Boxing, Judo and Fencing. She has pledged to give up to 15 days of her time to work at the games. At Impact all employees are entitled to 3 days per year to work within the community as part of our Learning in the Community (LITC) Initiative. This year Impact have pledged to give Becky 5 days LITC and because she is based in the Lakes they have also agreed to accommodate her in London during her time there.
Good luck Becky!
