Senior Management Faculty

Challenge

Driven by a huge change agenda and the merging of various organisations within Wales, the HR Director and his senior team set about tendering for work with the Management Board, then for a Senior Management Development Programme and latterly for a Core Programme, to include a specific piece of Management Development work. Impact was successful in all three of these tenders.

Solution

Initially, our senior consultants worked with the Permanent Secretary, Sir Jon Shortridge, to develop the leadership capability of his Management Board. We also helped to devise a 360 degree feedback tool, based around the Professional Skills for Government  Competency Framework, which is being used with Senior Civil Servants across WAG. With feedback and coaching, this has helped them to shape a new culture, strategic direction and a set of group behaviours.

Impact, along with five other organisations, have formed a Senior Management Faculty, for 140 Senior Civil Servants, to design and deliver senior staff development across the Assembly and provide a detailed Prospectus of available development solutions, organisational development possibilities and interventions for the ongoing development of senior managers and their teams. Subjects include Leadership, Teamworking and Partnership, Coaching, Managing Change and Delivering Results.

Innovation

Another exciting new initiative that Impact have been able to help with has been the establishment of a Shadow Management Board. This pioneering scheme, now in its second year, provides action learning development opportunities for top potential individuals, whilst challenging the Management Board with different perspectives and fresh ideas.

Finally, as part of the Core Contract, Impact was asked to design and deliver a Leadership Programme for the top high-potential candidates from each of three tiers across the organisation. In total, this equates to a three-year development programme for around 75 people per annum, on a rolling basis.

‘Impact are a refreshing company to work with. They make everything feel bespoke and special to you. Too many companies recycle their product but Impact can always be relied upon to deliver training and development with a personal touch. Carefully constructed programmes which are fun and innovative but equally deadly serious  with key business deliverables. The products are business focused and the people have real passion for what  they do and are hungry to make a difference to their clients. Impact pride themselves on developing long term  relationships with their clients and therefore take great pains to deliver programmes that can be evolved over time to take account of how businesses develop. Impact are extremely competent in managing small projects to the very largest programme and have extensive experience of working with multi-site organisations on an international  level if required.

My experience of Impact has been so positive that I have introduced them to other organisations They have
a tremendous ability to adapt to different cultures and to quickly win the trust and respect of people at all levels.'
