Safety PolicyThis Safety Policy is the primary statement of Impact International’s intent in health and safety issues. It lays down the management structure and responsibilities for Health and Safety. This web site primarily concerns the training function of Impact.
Safety is organized at Impact through a sound safety culture throughout the organization. The OSHA Four-Point Workplace Program forms the basis of this culture. Management Commitment and Employee InvolvementImpact has a clearly-stated worksite policy on safe and healthful work and working conditions so that all personnel understand the priority of safety and health protection. Top management are involved in implementing the system to demonstrate management’s commitment. Staff understand that safety is everybody’s responsibility and are consulted with agreement reached on hazards and work place precautions. Annual reviews of the system’s operations are conducted to evaluate success in meeting goals and objectives, so that deficiencies can be identified and the program can be revised as needed. We have an open no blame safety culture. Worksite AnalysisTo ensure a safe working environment a process has been implemented to ensure identification of all hazards by initially conducting comprehensive worksite surveys for safety and health, and then periodic updates. All hazards associated with jobs, processes and/or phases of work are identified and analyzed. This ensures a reliable system to encourage employees, without fear of reprisal, to notify management personnel about conditions that appear hazardous and to receive timely and appropriate responses. Accidents and “near miss” incidents are investigated to determine their causes and to create prevention strategies. Hazard Prevention and ControlAll identified hazards are eliminated or controlled in a timely manner. As per OSHA recommendations we have adopted the following control measures: engineering controls, the most reliable and effective; administrative controls that limit exposure to hazards by adjusting the work schedule; work practice controls; and personal protective equipment. Codes of Safe Practice have been produced for all of our regular activities and are available for all staff. Systems are adapted to meet each workplace’s particular characteristics. Our medical program includes and emergency plan, first aid and emergency medical care. Training for Employees, Supervisors and ManagersStaff job skills are identified at interview and reviewed during appraisals or when job description changes. Staff are programmed on courses in relation to skills needed. All employees, including contract workers, understand the hazards to which they may be exposed and how to prevent harm to themselves and others. Supervisors and managers understand their responsibilities and the reasons for them so that they can carry out their roles effectively. Periodic refresher training for all employees is delivered where necessary.
