Job title & responsibilities
Global Safety Advisor.
This year saw me racing across the sea ice on the back of skidoos to an unexplored region of the East Greenland coast with 5 clients. Soon, the two skidoos ahead bogged in to the softening surface and a nagging memory sprang into sharp focus as we sunk over our knees in the watery morass. Twenty years before, whilst Guiding in Antarctica, two colleagues with their loads and skidoos disappeared through the sea ice leaving me sitting gingerly in between the holes.
Being Global Safety Advisor is a demanding job, but Impact also allows me time to have my own adventures. These experiences give me a healthy dose of “on the edge” experiences, helping me to sharpen my skills and foster a common sense approach to safety matters within the organisation. There is always something different to give advice on, from the chlorination of our “sump” at Merewood, to helping our colleagues in Japan develop a safety system for a new activity.
