Impact receive a Big Tick
Impact is delighted to be one of four companies awarded a 2009 BITC “Big Tick” for the Impact on Society Award for a Small Company.
The BITC (Business in the Community) Awards for Excellence are the UK’s most influential, independent, peer assessed corporate responsibility awards. Run in association with the Financial Times, the awards recognise and celebrate those companies who have shown innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to corporate responsibility.
In a time of extraordinary change, when the role of business is constantly under debate, the Awards for Excellence highlight the achievements of UK businesses.106 Big Ticks have been awarded across 14 categories in 2009.
Impact on Society Award
The Impact on Society Award (in association with the Institute of Directors) is awarded to companies that have improved their business and their overall impact on society – in the marketplace, the workplace, the environment and the community – through leadership and integration of responsible business practices. Impact were successful due to our undertaking of a global initiative to re-engineer our business proposition around Creating Sustainable Enterprise. Impact’s stance is that creativity and innovation will drive business transformation towards becoming a sustainable enterprise, where organisations use their core skills and talent to alleviate poverty and minimise environmental degradation.
BITC’s CR Index was also published this week, alongside the Big Tick awards. All the companies participating in this year’s Index reaffirmed that climate change is now a key issue affecting the future viability of their business. Although many identify it as a risk, there is also increased reference to cost savings, new business opportunities and competitive advantage.
The key message is to keep up the momentum on climate change despite the current economic climate – commitment and action are needed now. To find out more about how Impact can work in partnership with you to improve and implement your climate change strategy, please click here.
Doing Well by Doing Good
Research undertaken last October, by BITC with Ipsos MORI, tested the assertion that there is a link between corporate responsibility and improved share price. Based on evidence from 33 FTSE companies that had all taken part in the CR Index over six years, the results showed that the more a company measured its environmental and social impacts, the less volatile its stock price. These companies outperformed their FTSE 350 peers on total shareholder return by between 3.3 and 7.7 per cent throughout the period 2002-2007.
This supports Impact's long-held belief that successful enterprises defy the need to make a choice between generating profit and making the world a better place. Sustainable Enterprises deliver long-term returns to stakeholders, whilst maximising value to society.
“I am writing to extend my warmest congratulations on your tremendous achievement for being awarded a ‘Big Tick’ in the Impact on Society of a Small Company category. It truly reflects your willingness and leadership to embrace responsible business within your business and act as a champion to the wider business community. I am certain that your example will help us to inspire many more businesses.
I was delighted that you could join us for the celebrations at Gorton Monastery and position your company as a leading light amongst so many other business leaders.”
